On Friday Sept. 13, the Associated Student Government began the process of reinstating campus clubs and solidifying future events for September.
The board started the meeting by approving the Financial Mastery Club constitution, a club that aims to teach the path to financial independence through mentorship and guest speakers.
“The idea is, while school kind of helps you in the theoretical realm of business,” said Jasper Park, president of the financial mastery club. “If you want more practical insights for what is happening in business today, you need to go to people who have taken their businesses from 0 to $100 million all on their own who would be able to tell you how they did it.”
Meeting dates and times are still in the works, but the club is planning on bringing in guest speakers to advise on how to grow and maintain financial independence successfully.
“Our club brings in real estate developers, startup founders, and entrepreneurs who went from broke to making hundreds of millions of dollars every year, sharing the exact strategies they used to make a thousand times more money than the average American.” Park said. “You won’t find this level of specificity or mentorship anywhere else.”
Aiming to provide reliable information and encourage students to be proactive in this upcoming election, ASG solidified a date for a voter registration event for Constitution Day to take place on Monday, Sept. 16 on the West Campus.
ASG also organized who on the board would sit in on certain College Committee meetings to represent the student body. These committees include the Academic Senate, Board Policies and Administrative Procedures (BPAP), and the Institutional Effectiveness Committee.
“It is important that as ASG we are attending these outside committee meetings and giving a student voice and student input,” Interim President Raquel Smith said. “Once we get our full board, we can relay that message to them and they will also be sitting in on outside committee meetings.”
Continuing to plan for future events, ASG set a date for a club day that will be held Sept. 25 at the Campus Center patio from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The date and time are subject to change if inclement weather occurs.
“Club day is just a very big event,” Smith said. “And it’s such a good place for students to see what is going on and really connect with other students and get involved with student life. I just want to make sure we promote and encourage this event as much as possible.”
With only around ten clubs being fully chartered as of now, clubs do not have to be fully authorized by ASG to participate in club day. Tables are first come first serve and available after 8:30 a.m. for set up.
The board’s next meeting will be held Friday, Sept. 20
Correction: Sept. 17
An earlier version of this story had misstated that the voter registration event on Constitution day would take place on Monday, Sept 16 on the West Campus. Since the time of publishing, this was the correct date but as of Sept. 17, ASG has solidified its voter registration day to be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept 17 on the Campus Center patio.
