In a surprise move, City College men’s soccer team is going to play offs after all. Because the Vaqueros’ power ranking, which was determined by the number of good record teams the Vaqs played, the team gets a second shot at attending the Final Four and winning the State Championship.
Though the Vaqs lost its previous game, 2-1, to the Oxnard Condors, Vaq Head Coach Ken Newendorp attributed it to the pressure the team was under.
“We needed to win that game, so there was a lot of pressure,” he said. “Now we can play the role of the underdog and enjoy the game.”
The Vaqs’ next game is scheduled for 2 p.m., Saturday at Cerritos College. The Cerrito Falcons are 3-0.
“Our team is as good as any team in the state,” Newendorp added. “We’ll embrace the underdog role and go and beat some people.”
