Study broad in London with Professor Joseph White while featuring classes in theater and philosophy. Joseph White Associate Professor of the Department of Philosophy,
“The challenge is an educational look at Europe,” White said. Every year City College hosts a number of study abroad programs and exchange students. Most students do not know that abroad opportunities do not end with the closing of the school year. City College features many summer study abroad programs, with one of the most popular destinations being London, England.
No stranger to Europe, White has lead the summer study abroad program to London for the past four years and has directed a semester study abroad program in Cambridge, England.
Featured classes on the London study abroad trip are Theater Arts 108 and Philosophy 101. Combined, the enrolled student earns six total transferable units. “There are no prerequisites, at least no formal ones,” Professor White said. “Informal prerequisites are an open mind, scholarly disposition and an adventurous spirit.” The program requires students to be at least 18 years old and have at least a 2.0 GPA.
Not including airfare and meals, the program costs $3,500. Those who receive financial aid are eligible for limited aid for the trip.
Some of the program features include a guided tour of London, four theater performances, housing in student dorms and apartments in a world class city, trips to Stonehenge, Salisbury and much more.
“We’ve seen Les Miserables, Phantom of the Opera, Hamlet, Inspector Calls, and The Importance of Being Earnest,” he said.
Space in the program is limited to thirty openings.
“If there’s a wait list, it’s first come first serve.” White said. “Its such a rich educational opportunity. How enriching life becomes.”
