The normally impassable 6600 block of Del Playa Drive in Isla Vista during past Halloween weekends was more calm this year at 12:30 am on Saturday, Oct. 31 in Isla Vista. The University of California, Santa Barbara held events open to currently enrolled Gauchos, including concerts on Friday and Saturday nights, combined with a noise ordinance for the weekend have greatly reduced the Halloween partying in IV.

This former church is currently under renovations to become a new Community Center in Isla Vista, Saturday, Oct. 17 at 976 Embarcadero Del Mar in Isla Vista. The space was open for an event called ‘Community Building Community,’ where residents and the public were able to give input on how best to use the available space, during Meet Your Neighbors Day in Isla Vista.

Adjunct Lecturer and Librarian Kirsten LaBonte from City College’s Luria Library is at the Pardall Center in Isla Vista every Wednesday night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., as part of an effort by the City College Task Force to provide students living in the area access to library resources, Wednesday, Oct. 7 in Isla Vista. Access to a mobile librarian started Sept. 20 and will continue until Dec. 2, excluding Nov. 11 and Nov. 25, and provides services such as LaBonte's help to answer homework questions, conduct research, and also access to 150 free black and white and 50 free color prints per quarter.

Dr. Charles Wood, a part-time jazz teacher for City College, is captured playing the Vibraphone, an instrument he claims to have mastered in under two years, Wednesday, Feb. 20, in a practice room in the Drama and Music Building on West Campus. Wood has been playing instruments and teaching musical arts for over 50 years.
