Chella Courington, author and English professor at City College, has recently published her novella ‘The Somewhat Sad Tale of the Pitcher and Crow,’ Tuesday, Nov. 10, 2015, pictured at her office in the Interdisciplinary Center on West Campus. The story, which shares some parallels to her own life, follows the escapades of two married writers, Tom and Adele, while they try and organize the living and creative space between them. Courington will be reading a piece from her novella on Wednesday, Nov. 18 in the Atkinson Gallery.

Andy Howell, a staff scientist at Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network and a part time physics instructor at UCSB, speaks on astronomy as a guest lecturer at City College on Thursday, Nov. 12, in the Physical Science Building on East Campus. The lecture comprised a part of his studies over the last 15 years on supernovae and dark energy. 'The best part about my job is being able to figure something out about the universe that no other human being has ever known,' Howell stated.

Despite a difficult past as a juvenile delinquent, City College Philosophy Instructor Manny Raya has been teaching for seven years after graduating from Santa Barbara City College and San Francisco State with a degree in Philosophy, Wednesday, Oct. 14, in the Career Center on West Campus. Raya has also co-founded a two-week summer program called ‘Turf 2 Surf’ for boys age 14-17 who are in Juvenile Detention centers for gang related activity; they are taught to surf and encouraged to put their differences behind them.

The Crassula tetragona, or Mini Pine tree, is a succulent native to South Africa. It should reach to about 2 ft. tall and will gain small white blooms in the spring.
