Monday, March 7
Men’s Golf: City College 2nd at Glendale (Oakmont Country Club)
Caleb Rodriguez and Ryan Gay finished first and second individually as City College placed second overall at the WSC No. 4 tournament hosted by Glendale. Rodriguez’s 76 saw him finish three shots clear of the third-place finisher, with Gay finishing a shot back at 77. The Vaqueros finished four shots back of first-place College of the Canyons as a team and will travel to Antelope Valley Country Club for WSC No. 5 on Monday, March 14.
Tuesday, March 8
Baseball: City College 3 at Ventura 9
South No. 19 City College dropped their fourth straight and first WSC-North game at South No. 15 Ventura. Gavin Haimovitz’s RBI single in the top of the third inning drew the Vaqueros (10-7, 3-1) level, but the Pirates scored two in the bottom of the third and six in the bottom of the fifth to pull away. Matty Fung went 4-for-5 with an RBI, a double, and a run scored.
Wednesday, March 9
Men’s Volleyball: City College 2 at Fullerton 3
No. 9 City College notched wins in the second and third sets, but were upended by the host No. 9 Hornets in the last two to close out a five-game road trip. Three of the five sets were decided by two points, including the decisive fifth that saw the Vaqueros (3-6, 1-3) fall 16-14. City College returns to open a six-game homestand at the Sports Pavilion against Santa Monica College on Friday, March 11 at 6 p.m. Spectators are now allowed to attend with proof of vaccination or proof of a negative PCR test within the past 72 hours and will be required to wear an N95 or KN95 mask.
Thursday, March 10
Baseball: City College 7 vs Ventura 2
Tyler Imbach’s second inning double drove in three runs, and South No. 19 City College added a run apiece in the bottom of the third, fifth, sixth and seventh to even their series with South No. 15 Ventura at Pershing Park. Decker Mac Neil pitched seven innings, allowing 6 hits, 1 run (earned) and striking out five for his third win of the season. The Vaqueros (11-7, 4-1) are one win behind WSC-North leaders Cuesta College and Moorpark College, and will play at Ventura College on Saturday, March 12 at noon.
Men’s Tennis: City College at Glendale
Results for the men’s tennis match at Glendale College were unavailable at the time of publishing. City College (3-3, 3-2) hosts Fullerton College on Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m.
Softball: City College 6 at Oxnard 2
The Vaqueros scored in each of their first three innings led by pitcher Lauren Indermuehle to win their WSC-North opener. Indermuehle notched a season-high 10 strikeouts in a complete game effort, allowing six hits and two runs (one earned). She helped her cause with 3 RBI, including a two-run double in City College’s (6-16, 1-0) three-run top of the second. The Vaqueros have put together a three-game winning streak, and are at Moorpark College on Tuesday, March 15 at 2:30 p.m.
