Mekaylla White led City College’s women’s soccer team in a 5-0 win against Moorpark Friday, pulling off another hat trick in the process at La Playa Stadium.
The win puts the Vaqueros’ record at 12-6-3 as they gear up for the postseason.
The Vaqueros offense shot on the Moorpark goalie a total of 13 times in just the first half.
The defense was also effective, only allowing one shot on their goal throughout the course of the entire game.
Head Coach John Sisterson said he was delighted by the result of the game.
“I just had a feeling today was going to be the day,” Sisterson said. “Our team delivered a clinical performance.”
He said he believes that this victory will set the Vaqueros up to be successful heading into the postseason.
White stood out from the beginning as she scored all three of her goals within the first half of the game, generating thunderous applause from her teammates on the bench.
Sisterson acknowledged that White has been an invaluable asset to the team as the season has progressed.
“She’s an overall great player,” he said. “I’m sure she will go on to do great things at a four-year school after this.”
White said that while her personal success has meant a lot to her, it’s just teamwork, and everybody helps along the way.
The other two goals were scored by Sean O’Brien at the start of the second half and Abby McCann in the final moments of the game.
The Vaqueros will now head off into the first round of playoffs and the team expressed optimism about their prospects.
“We’ve really peaked as a team just at the right time, and I look forward to seeing how far we can take these wins,” said offensive player Taylor Valle.
White said she is also confident that the future looks bright for the Vaqueros as they take on their next challenge.
“I’m excited to keep playing,” she said. “Whatever teams we end up facing, we will be ready for.”
The Vaqueros will be kicking off their first postseason game on the road this Thursday.
