The Vaquero women’s soccer team beat Cuesta College 2-0 Tuesday, bringing the team’s winning streak to six.
The players ran out onto La Playa stadium at 6:30 p.m. full of confidence, pumping each other up in anticipation for the game to come.
“We are never worried, even if we play Barcelona,” said head coach John Sisterson with a smile. “Every game is a different situation and has different situations but you just gotta get out there and do the job right, and that’s just what I taught ‘em.”
Sisterson said he has complete confidence in his players, adding that if they lose, it would be because not enough effort was put into the game.
“If we’re gonna lose tonight we would have beaten ourselves because we didn’t play hard enough, or push ourselves hard enough,” Sisterson said as he watched the players warm up for the game.
The team started out the game smart with the team captain, Riley Moore (7), up front. He has made 12 points this season, two of which were game winning goals, and has a .800 shot percentage.
Freshman defender Taylor Valle (3) said she wasn’t worried about the game because of her teammates Isabella Viana (11) and Matilda Cassel Ledin (16).
“They really are great players and great leaders,” Valle said.
After only four minutes in, Viana dribbled the ball all the way up the field and scored a goal completely unassisted. She sent the small crowd cheering and the team running up and hugging her with excitement.
Both teams played a clean game with no fouls the entire match.
The Vaqueros did not make their second goal until the second half when defender Nicole Van Sickle (8), assisted by Viana, scored a goal against Brenae Damery, the goal keeper for Cuesta.
The Vaqueros outshot Cuesta College 33-9 with 22 of those shots in the first half. Cuesta College had 10 saves.
The team will aim for the its seventh consecutive win on 2 p.m. Friday, October 19 at Allan Hancock.
