City College men’s golf team took third place in the Western State Conference match number 10 on Monday morning at San Dimas Golf Course with a team score of 388, falling one stroke short of Ventura College.
College of the Canyons won the tournament with an 8- under 352, which is officially the best score by any team in California this year.
Freshman Felix Dine from Sweden shot a season-best with a 71, tying Jones Comerford of Canyons for third place.
With a 77-3 record in conference, Canyons is currently the defending state champion, and will go into WSC 11 next week with a 16 game lead over City College.
Kotaro Noda, a Freshman from Sapporo, Japan shot his lowest score of the year for the Vaqueros, finishing with a 77.
Freshman Zach Steinberger, a Santa Barbara local, tied for ninth place with a score of 74.
With a noticeable improvement over their finish at WSC number 9 earlier this month, The Vaqueros now enter the final two matches of the WSC tournament in third place. Finals will be held in Llano, CA with two 36-hole matches on Monday at Crystalaire Country Club.
