City College currently ranks fourth in the Western State Conference Supremacy Standings, which measures the athletic success of the 18 West Coast teams in the conference.
The Vaqueros had an excellent fall semester, earning four conference championships, two more than any other school. Both the men’s and women’s soccer teams won the conference. The men’s team finished 17-1-4 and went to the final round of Regionals while the women’s team finished 21-1-1, with its only loss coming in the State Championship game.
Women’s golf and water polo also won the conference last fall, and the women’s volleyball team tied for first.
Teams earn points based on where they finish in the standings. The four conference titles earned City College 10 points for each while the women’s volleyball team earned 9 points. The total number of points is divided by the number of sports the school participates in, and when the year concludes, teams earn additional points based on GPA.
Last year, City College finished third to LA Mission and Ventura College. This year, the school sits behind College of the Canyons, LA Valley and Ventura.
Currently the men’s baseball and volleyball teams are first in the conference, women’s tennis is just behind Glendale at second, and the men’s golf team at third.
