City College’s women’s cross country team will travel to its third straight state run after placing 12th in their Southern California regional race.
With some late season sparks, all six runners dressed in red and black recorded their fastest marks of the season in an efforts to reach yet another state race.
“It was a warm day (in low 80s) and we had a tough starting spot, in the box all the way to the left,” said Head Coach Scott Fickerson. “We were cut off to the back of the pack but we did a great job of staying composed and working our way back up. It was a great team effort.”
That effort will give the women a chance to better their 19th place finish they achieved last season. Placing 7th in 2012, Fickerson said he feels that this team is peaking late, and will give other schools a run for their money.
“Now we have two weeks to prepare and we’re looking forward to an even better race at State,” said Fickerson.
The women will toe the starting line at 10 a.m. Nov. 22, at Woodland Park in Fresno.
