Don’t hide your rice, don’t hide your beans, because City College’s Treat Or Treat So Others Can Eat fundraiser will take these items and donate them to the local food bank.
Students can participate in this fundraiser by donating canned food items at City College athletic events, where donations will be sent to the Food Bank of Santa Barbara County.
“This fundraiser means a lot because it gives City College the opportunity to reach out to the people of Santa Barbara and help out our community,” said Ian Roberts, cross-country team captain and a captain’s council member.
The captain’s council is made up of handpicked student athletics, which come together every other week to form ideas on how to give back to their community.
One of their ideas was this fundraiser, where students can donate foods like bagged rice, bagged beans, canned fruit, canned veggies, peanut butter and even boxed pasta.
Students who bring these items to the athletic games will get something in exchange for their donation.
Kim Schuck, who in charge of the athletic departments community development, said that free admission to volleyball, soccer and football games will be granted until Nov. 2 to students who bring canned food items.
“The captain’s council wanted to promote something within the community; not only City College’s community, but the larger community as well,” said Schuck.
Schuck said the school has received many donations and expects to receive more at the football game on Nov. 2.
You can bring your food items to the football game at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 at La Playa Stadium for free admission.
