City College Surf Club held a fundraising event Saturday, Oct 13, at Leadbetter Beach. J7 Surfboards and Body Glove Wetsuits sponsored the event by providing boards and suits for the club to rent out for $10.
“I think it’s a great price, they brought the wetsuits and the boards,” said Bob Mitchell, father of Alex Mitchell, a surf club member. “I saw one of the other students trying to instruct another student, so I thought it was a great opportunity.”
The 90 member surf club holds different fundraisers each semester to help pay for club camping trips. On Saturday it raised $100.
“It’s a good way to make friends and go hang out and have something productive to do that’s not the [Isla Vista] party scene,” said Luke Barrett, president of the surf club. “It’s like a healthy activity to make friends and just make something cool.”
