After a successful season, the women’s soccer team had to surrender against Ventura when the Pirates proved to be a hard nut to crack.
Ventura defeated City College 3-0 in the second round of the playoffs last Tuesday, ending the season for the Vaqueros.
The team finished the season 15-2-4.
After their 7-1 thrashing against Moorpark on Nov. 20, City College went down to Ventura with a positive attitude and belief.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” said head coach John Sisterson.
In the first half City College showed their defensive prowess by holding Ventura scoreless.
“We dominated the first half,” said sophomore Margot Valenzuela.
However, in the second half Ventura turned the game around and scored all three goals in a ten-minute span.
The Vaqueros made an attempt to come back but with no success.
“We got too comfortable and they took advantage of that,” said Valenzuela. “We had the heart to win, but we didn’t take our chances.”
Jessica Domenichelli, the Vaqs top scorer, said that Ventura is a really good team and hard to defeat.
Domenichelli proved to be a deadly striker, bagging 25 goal to lead the Vaquero offense.
She believes that the recipe behind the teams’ and her personal success is down to team spirit.
Although they lost, Sisterson is proud of his girls’ season.
“The girls have competed very well this season, and it’s a great team with a good attitude,” Sisterson said. “It‘s been an adventure and they are a strong team.”
