Earlier in the second semester City College’s cafeteria experienced an elevation in prices leaving even bigger strain towards students.
On average a student at any school requires a meal of some kind. While some pack their own regiments most are in need of a school’s cafeteria entree choices.
“As a full-time student it’s harder to grab food,” first-year student Dillan Scott said.
Since prices have risen students often have to second guess whether or not they want to spend that amount of money on an expensive entree or pick something cheaper and less healthy from the vending machines.
School cafeterias were designed for students who are struggling to try and make it day by day or to try and make things easier. Most college freshmen don’t have stoves in their living situations and rely on dining halls or frozen foods, refraining certain students from cooking for themselves in some areas.
Most students that have a full day of classes heavily rely on the school’s cafeteria to provide decently priced food to get through the day. As college students it’s hard enough to eat healthy in our own regard, but when affordable food is an option at school it’s easier and more efficient to rely on.
A large number of students live paycheck to paycheck, paying for a lot of their own expenses including clothes, rent, and basic necessities. Having cheap and healthy food provided by the school is much easier to live by instead of having to spend more than what one should on food. Diet is extremely important to attain a healthy lifestyle and mental health status. When money troubles get involved with diet it can affect a lot of students’ health mentally and physically.
While students try to keep up with their academic schedules and financial situations the inflated prices regarding the cafeteria causes a lot of second guessing, hoping to save money, but also hoping to keep a decent diet.
On top of unbearable expenses in order to pay for a meal that barely gets you through the day you have to learn how to save money you don’t even have. Things happen all the time when things come up that cost money, filling up your car with gas, over priced groceries, clothes, etc.
Within the prices rising at City College it excludes that comfort of places you can go to for a cheap and affordable meal.
Sure, being broke can be part of the college experience, but it doesn’t have to include the decision making of not knowing when or where you’re going to get your first meal from. City College is an outstanding school; it’s a safe space for all its students and faculty. It strives to be a stress free space as well, it’s nice to go to an affordable source when you don’t have the money nor the time.
