City College will soon begin the search to hire 6 full-time faculty members to fill new positions at the school.
The positions will be financed through a fund issued by the state. The money was allocated to all California community colleges and must be utilized on full-time faculty.
According to Superintendent-president Dr. Lori Gaskin, this is the first time in years the college has had the necessary funds to add full-time positions.
“These aren’t replacement positions, they’re brand new positions,” Gaskin said. “And it’s certainly the first time in decades that we’ve been able to do this.”
The money City College received is estimated to fund up to six new employees, though they have not decided where these hirings will go. Gaskin explained to the Board of Trustees members that Academic Senate President Kimberly Monda will lead the senate through the process and prioritization.
The next board meeting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10.
