City College is now among the few community colleges in California to offer students a Transfer Admission Guarantee, TAG, with the American University of Paris.
With this new TAG opportunity, City College expands its reach to Europe giving students the chance to transfer to a foreign university for the first time. In addition, students who meet the TAG requirements are also guaranteed to graduate from the American University of Paris in two years.
“American University of Paris will provide students with an opportunity to study abroad in a foreign country and experience all the tremendous benefits associated with this opportunity,” said Angela Warren, transfer academy coordinator. “Students will receive ‘an American-style education in one of the world’s most cosmopolitan cities.’”
The American University of Paris is a private, independent and accredited liberal arts and sciences university in Paris, France. Founded in 1962, The University is the oldest American institution of higher education in Europe and it offers 20 undergraduate majors and 10 graduate degrees.
Its campus is composed of nine buildings centrally located in the seventh arrondissement, or neighborhood, of Paris. This part of Paris is on the left bank, near the Eiffel Tower and the Seine River.
“I’ve been studying the French language for a few years now, and I would like to put what I’ve learned to use” said Cindy Hang, Political Science major who plans on transferring in Fall 2014. “I believe that it’d be very beneficial for me to study [international relations] abroad– it definitely gives me a step ahead of the game.”
According the university’s website, the school currently employs 58 full-time professors and counts 992 students—794 undergraduate and 198 graduate—representing more than a 100 nationalities showing a student-teacher ratio of 15:1.
The total expense for the university’s current academic year was estimated at 42,274 euros, which is approximately equal to $56,803 at today’s exchange rate. Its academic year tuition alone was of 27,380 euros as for Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 combined.
In order to be transfer-guaranteed, applicants must have completed the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum by the time she or he transfers. Students need a minimum of 45 UC and CSU transferable semester credits with a cumulative grade point average equal to or superior than a 3.0 as well as being in good disciplinary standing.
“There is no cost associated with any of the TAG institutions that have partnered with SBCC,” Warren said. “All SBCC students with a goal of transfer to at least one of the TAG institutions, are welcome to join the Transfer Academy.”
Applicants who fail in the completion of one or more of these requirements will be considered for transfer without guarantee on individual basis.
“I’ve been waiting to leave California, but I never considered going abroad to finish my undergraduate,” Hang said. “It was a pleasant surprise, to say the very least.
