The Vaqueros final home football game of the season will be host to many emotions, as the college will honor its veterans at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at La Playa Stadium.
This will be the final official activity to commemorate Veterans Day 2013.
“We will be recognized as honorary captains for the second year,” said Magdalena Torres, Veterans Program adviser.
Torres said the college has 500 student veterans. All of which will receive free admission to the game.
On Tuesday, Nov. 5, the college hosted a Veterans Recognition and Resource day and will honor them again at the Vaqueros final home game on Saturday.
Held at Friendship Plaza on East Campus, the event featured Raymond Morua, district representative for Congresswoman Lois Capps, as keynote speaker.
A variety of campus and community resource information for veterans was made available as well.
Torres said she feels it is important to pay respect to veterans and honor them for all they have done for the country.
“The Veterans Programs mission is to support veterans and their families, as well as their goals at City College,” she said.
“I believe this is our fourth festival so far, all of which have been very successful. We host one, as well, in March for military women and active duty week.”
Torres said student veterans helped in preparation and setting up for the event.
