The contract between the Metropolitan Transit District and City College will be renewed after 73 percent of students voted in favor of a fee increase.
The online polls were open from Monday, Oct. 21 until Friday, Oct. 25. All City College students were eligible to vote from a link sent through the Pipeline email system.
A total of 2076 students participated with 1510 voting in favor of the increase and 566 voting against.
Amy Collins, student program and associated student senate advisor, attributes the high number of participants to the campaigning done by the senate.
“The senate did a really great job with getting the word out there,” said Collins, “and students made their voices heard, which is always awesome.”
The mandatory bus fee will rise from $26 per semester to $30. The new price will be implemented Fall 2014.
