The Instructors’ Association and Santa Barbara Community College District’s contract passed granting a pay raise and health care benefits to faculty.
The new contract is effective from July 1, 2013 through June 30, 2016 and gives faculty a basic dental plan and a selective 3 percent increase in wages. Department chairs will received an estimated $75,500 raise.
“Turnout was very high and the majority was decisive,” said Lynne Stark, president and treasurer for the instructors association, in a faculty wide email. “75 percent voted for ratification and 25 percent voted against.”
After this, the Instructors’ Association plans to focus on a faculty compensation study. The District agreed to begin work on the study after this contract was settled.
“I believe we will see rapid progress in bringing the salaries of our faculty into line with our well deserved reputation,” said Stark.
