Many students at City College prefer to be dropped off behind the Campus Bookstore to shorten their walk to class, but that luxury may soon go away.
Because of all the traffic from faculty cars and bus stop pedestrians, The Facilities, Safety, Security & Parking Committee proposed possible revamps to the East Campus faculty parking area. The revamps would close off East Campus to all student vehicles, making drop-offs near the Bookstore impossible.
This would include a bigger drop-off area in front of the East Campus kiosk to facilitate extra traffic and a traffic arm at the East Campus entrance that only faculty could get through using an I.D. card.
“The whole idea is driven by pedestrian safety,” said Kenley Neufeld, academic senate president-elect.
Erik Fricke, head of the Facilities, Safety, Security and Parking Committee, insisted that the proposal was nowhere near becoming a reality because of all the obstacles the college would have to go through to begin construction.
“I don’t really like the idea of being dropped off in front of the college instead of behind the Bookstore,” said freshman Monica Medina. “I mean, I’m pretty sure everyone’s too lazy to walk all the way from the Administration Building when they don’t have to.”
