The College Planning Council approved a revised proposal that would make Rob Morales the new Director of Administrative Services and Emergency Response.
The proposal, which would restructure responsibilities in business services, will be voted on for final approval at the Dec. 13 Board of Trustees meeting. If approved, Morales, who is currently the director of duplicating and purchasing, will take on extra responsibilities in the business services department and will also be in charge of keeping the college prepared in the event of a disaster or emergency.
Morales has no prior experience in emergency preparedness and has been in his current position for 9 years. The college will hire an outside consultant to train him in responsibilities for emergency and disaster planning.
The specific consultant has yet to be determined.
“We have to get people trained,” said Joseph Sullivan, vice president of business services. “How do we respond in an emergency? Well, the only way you can get people to respond is to practice it.”
Sullivan says the college will begin fire evacuation training in the spring.
The proposal would also make Pat English the new Vice President of Human Resources and would hire a new tech position.
