Lois Capps has a 16.6 percent lead over her opponent Abel Maldonado in the race for U.S. representative for the 24th district.
Capps has earned a 58.33 percent majority over Maldonado, who has gained 41.67 percent of the vote in Santa Barbara County, according to election results with 60 percent of precincts reporting.
“12,000 people voted in Isla Vista,” Capps said in her victory speech. “Our young people rock. At UCSB, City College, Cal Poly and Westmont, this is the future. … I want to say a word of thanks to my honorable opponent, Abel Maldonado for running a tough race and for all of his many years of public service along the central coast and in Sacramento.”
