The Phi Theta Kappa honors society inducted new members at its annual ceremony in the main cafeteria on Friday, Sept. 27.
The club has over 200 members this year, more than ever before.
“This ceremony is what I look forward most to in the semester,” said Dr. Manoutcher Eskandari-Qajar, Phi Theta Kappa advisor.
Prior to the start of the ceremony, new and returning members along with other attendees shared refreshments and appetizers on the outside patio of the main cafeteria.
“Every August we get so excited to welcome new students,” said Superintendent-President Dr. Lori Gaskin. “It is an opportunity to recognize and honor academic achievement.”
Phi Theta Kappa encourages academic success, involvement in fellowship and service events in the community.
The new members are most excited for the opportunity to transfer after this school year.
“I joined for the urge to attend a great four year university,” said new member Jonathan Kubota. “I’m looking forward to graduating and moving on to better things.”
The honors society has many events planned for the semester such as working with various local, national and international charities.
“What the leadership does is we do philanthropic work. We work on projects each semester,” said Samuel Terrell, Phi Theta Kappa president. “We’re here to build bridges.”
New and returning members are invited to Zodo’s Bowling and Beyond in Goleta, Ca. next Friday from 7:30-9:30 p.m. for a gathering to welcome.
