SBCC Dance Company will present choreography excerpts in an informal showing Friday, March 10, at the Ojai Arts Center.
“This showing is to build our audience and to help find donors to support the company for travel expense, costumes and theater rentals,” said Tracy Kofford, artistic director for the SBCC Dance Company, in an email.
There will be excerpts of modern and contemporary pieces including “Intersecting Fugue,” “Until East Meets West,” “We Are Made of Stars,” “Bash,” “Cascading Failures” and “Echo Chamber.”
The entire company, which is composed of City College students, will perform at this event.
“I think the informal showing is a good way to build an audience for the company because it is more intimate,” student dancer Emily Nugent said in an email. “It feels like a special event just for them in a way, and I think people appreciate it.”
She added that in a small setting like this there’s more of a connection between the dancers and the audience, which she hopes encourages people to see their performances more in the future.
SBCC Dance Company will perform at 6 p.m. with free admission and a suggested donation of $10.
