For the first time, Santa Barbara City College will host a duo piano concert, at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8, inside the Garvin Theatre.

Adjunct City College music professor, Josephine Brummel and City College music accompanist Nathan Maurer will join the stage together to perform works from various classical composers such as, Rachmaninov, Ravel, Shostakovich, Piazzolla, Schumann, and Gershwin.

“I’m excited because this will be the first ever duo piano performance in the Garvin Theatre. I’ve been in a show with 12 other pianists before…” Brummel said. “There wasn’t a place that had that many pianos, so we had to practice in a music store, which was the only place we could find with that many pianos in one room.”

Professor Brummel has been affiliated with City College since 1989 and now instructs Intermediate Piano classes as well as Beginning Jazz Improvisation.

The performance will be followed by a reception and opportunity to meet with Brummel and Maurer.

The music department here at City College will sponsor the event. There will be a $15 general admission fee— and a $10 admission fee for students and seniors.

“I hope we sell out… the Garvin can hold up to 400 people, and hopefully most of the music students should be coming,” Brummel said.

This concert is one event put on by the Harold Dunn Memorial Concert Series, which will feature “Music Now,” a contemporary and eclectic mix of various sounds, at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14 at the Garvin Theatre. Admission prices are the same for most events, excluding the “Quire of Voices,” and events at SoHo.
