The “Vaqueros Rebound” is a short summary of games and matches that have recently occurred. This rebound, we’re covering events that happened from March 10 to March 15.
Monday, March 10
Men’s Golf vs Bakersfield (Third place in the Western State Conference)
City College men’s golf team played in the Western State Conference on Monday, March 10 at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield. The Vaqueros finished in third place. Freshman Kellen Willmore came out on top for City College when he placed second with a score of 73.
Softball vs. Allan Hancock (13-7) L
The Vaqueros softball team was defeated by Allan Hancock on Monday, March 10 at home in Pershing Park. City College had a tough start and first scored when Allan Hancock was already in the lead by six runs. They did not come back and lost the game 13-7 after fighting for 2½ hours.
Tuesday, March 11
Baseball vs. Fresno City College (6-4) W
City College’s baseball team was able to take home a win from Fresno City College on Tuesday, March 11. They won in a close game with a 6-4 score and played at Fresno City College again Saturday, March 15.
Softball vs. Ventura
City College was set to play Ventura on March 11, but the game was postponed to Monday, March 17 due to rain.
Wednesday, March 12
Men’s Volleyball vs. Moorpark (3-1) W
The Vaqueros men’s volleyball team defeated Moorpark in an intense home game on Wednesday, March 12. City College was off to a great start and won the first set 27-25. They continued to lead the game and also won their second set with a score of 25-20. The Vaqueros didn’t finish the game after the third set which they lost 25-15. The little setback was nothing for City College and they came back winning the fourth set 25-19. They won with a final score of 3-1.
Thursday, March 13
Softball vs. Santa Monica (22-1) W
Women’s softball won their game against Santa Monica on Thursday, March 13. They finished the game with an outstanding final score of 22-1. They played five innings scoring two runs in the first one, a distinguished 11 runs in the second, seven in the third one, zero in the fourth and two in the last inning. Santa Monica however, was only able to score one point during the second inning.
Friday, March 14
Baseball vs. Chaffey
City College was set to play Chaffey on March 14, but the game was postponed due to rain.
Men’s Volleyball vs. Antelope Valley (3-1) W
The Vaquero’s volleyball team won over Antelope Valley 3-1 on Friday, March 14. The game lasted for four sets in which City College was able to win the first one 25-12. They lost their second set 25-18, but came back and won the third set 25-16. The Vaqueros wrapped it up, winning the last set in a close race 25-20. City College men’s volleyball is now holding an overall score of 9-5.
Saturday, March 15
Baseball vs. Fresno City College (7-1) L
City College Baseball was defeated by Fresno City College. After previously winning against Fresno City College on March 11. Fresno came back for revenge. They won their home game with a final score of 7-1. This ends City College’s four game winning streak and puts them in a 11-8 overall record.
This wraps up a mostly successful week for City College athletics.
